Children’s nurses are qualified medical experts that deliver clinical treatment and care to children by working and managing staff as part of a multi-disciplinary team. They follow patients throughout their healthcare journeys, whether that is a sick newborn or an adolescent road accident victim. Children have very specific health needs so children’s nurses need to understand how a healthy child develops towards adulthood to minimise the impact of illness. A key part of their role involves working closely with the parents or guardians of their patients. For this reason, children’s nurses work in a wide range of settings and must be adaptable and able to build trusting relationships with all kinds of people.
